most of saturday was en route while soy chai to [livejournal.com profile] pheromone, or en route from there to the matinee.
  • 7. lampwork beads. It was a dining-fly set up in the driveway, which robs me of voyeuristic satisfaction of being in a house.
  • 6. included a photo cube of a person's head, with a birdseye view as the top panel, and feet for the ground view.
  • a real estate open house on liberty. amazing hat collection in the entryway, very quirky collections. single family listing for 1.1. (million.)
  • 12. Jason Alves. Paintings were big and bright. I liked them, but I don't know what I'd ever do with them.
  • 20. Garage gallery, but, wow, their garage is completely cleaned out, which is impressive in itself. Great watercolor of the swanboats. (I've been wanting to have a cheap romantic date that included a swanboat ride since I moved here, but... I rarely attract people who tolerate, much less enjoy, romance.)
  • 19. [livejournal.com profile] pheromone: has added fused glass to her repertoire. [livejournal.com profile] klingonlandlady had a few new paintings, but, really, it was the cybergoth spiky collars by [livejournal.com profile] frobzwiththingz that caught my eye. (Since I never get invited along various man ray outings, and have had consistently awful experiences going alone, I have nil places to wear such things.)
  • 35. Ilona Fried. Her art is bead collage, not bead making. And it's not until you see lesser beadwork that you appreciate her artistic eye. I fled before sinking more money on another bracelet (of copper edged beads, only with copper/amber glass instead of aqua). But, I'll probably contact her sometime after mother's day.

And then a decent time with the alums (despite previous comments), more food, matinee, a tourist walk with the Joshes.
"Um, a boat just drove by." "Ayup, here comes another one..."
Indoor BBQ with lots o meat, rootbeer floats, kill dr. lucky, robot chicken, and, to prevent us from watching it on tape, the Joshes re-enacted a Black Adder episode. From memory.

Sunday:
  • 10. I love the paint job on this house, outside and in. The art's not bad either.
  • 11. One of the group houses I didn't move into. Some great totebags, but... the beadwork was not to Ilona's standard.
  • 36. Lori Messenger's lampwork beads are, as always, great. But, she's not from Somerville, and it was a bunch of not necessarily from somerville artists under a tarp in the driveway. (Which would bother me less if there weren't 200+ participating artists now.) Bumped into [livejournal.com profile] hauntmeister, who joined me for a bit. Discussed how SOS actually means Soap Opera Somerville and... I forget the other alternate answer we devised.
  • 48. An acquaintance via Hathor. In his garage. The street had enough orange construction stuff that we almost missed the balloons.
  • 53. Fort Summer. To sum up, they bought a keg for open studios! Guinness even. the art was great, Kaiju-guy's completist collection of muppet show sets was fun to check out, perhaps as much as their owner. :) Heck, maybe I'll visit for some of the SCUL stuff, even though I'm not much of a bicyclist. I bought a recycled metal bug, on a stick. Bumped into the Pope, with another woman, after he told me he was too busy! Her shoes were funkier than mine! (I wore the Talbot's Wellies from St. Patrick's day -- when I was Shopping While Intoxicated.) [livejournal.com profile] hauntmeister's path diverged here too.
  • 59. I decided I couldn't devote enough time hunting for parking, and ended up skipping this one.
  • 78. The Pope's landlady, and one of my TG coffeebuddies. Amazing place. Definite decor envy. One of the other coffeebuddies, whose name I've failed to absorb, came in trying to purge her jewelry box. A lot of it was pretty nice stuff too, will make great gifts. Bumped into a former cow orker who also does pysanky, and a number of other TG regulars who only recognized me from the ankles down.
  • 80. the street was one way the wrong way, so I bailed.
  • 95. Justina Kochansky. I really, really like her stuff. among my purchases: a small box full of femo heads, named "heads heads heads" after "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead", which was my first thought too. a clear barbie body full of tacks. I resisted buying various pieces involving bulk mardi gras king cake babies, that were partially inspired by Little Otik, to send to [livejournal.com profile] tyrsalvia. (Baby phobia v. "I didn't expect them to melt so fast" is a tough call, truly.)
  • 73. a completely different take on recycled materials bug sculpture. [livejournal.com profile] coolwhitestare was entirely absent.
  • 74. [livejournal.com profile] miss_chance and [livejournal.com profile] tcb. I wish I justify spending That Much Money on something by J.B. Jones.
  • 69. I circled him after the museum opening, and figured he was so far away, I should make the effort. More assemblage, but more political than I wanted to see at the time.
  • 60. Martha Friend. She hasn't incorporated any of my roses yet. I like a lot of her lamps.
  • 65. I had time for Hilary, or the masonic lodge, which is more awesome when you manage to show it to someone new, and I was alone. Hilary it was! There was new stuff this year. The downstairs bathroom alone has evolved. (I always have an excuse to use Hilary's bathroom. It's worth it.) I called my mom from "Africa". If you failed to see "Africa", or hear the story of his shirtless son, in a child-size soviet gas mask, causing the visiting priest to drop his beer in fright, you weren't there long enough. met up with [livejournal.com profile] crs, robert m., assorted other by now familiar faces. Hilary invited me back anytime. I told him to be careful what he asks for.
