Other IFF movies

Despite my sister's visit and the ramble, I did fit in a couple Independent Film Festival screenings on Sunday.
Closed on Sundays was a doc about the recent consolidation of parishes in the Boston Archdiocese. Catholicism is an unavoidable news item in these parts. (Highest concentration of Catholics in the US, apparently). An orker at my last site was in tears last summer about her parish closing "to pay the lawsuits", but I never managed to actually research the story. Legal debts are likely minor compared to the shrinking congregations, but, people will blame those or racism before admitting such. And it's all on film. A good example of how NOT to proceed with consolidation, a pretty much inevitable fate for the rest of the country too.
Three parishes were profiled, and well-represented in the audience. People cheered for their cameos, and tried to take flash photos of the screen. Um, at the risk of indulging my inner-snob, certainly not the usual indy film crowd.

Afterwards, I spent an hour in the rush line to see Blackballed, a mockumentary about a fallen legend of paintball. (I would've bailed and gone to the shorts were it not for
prog.) I've never seen any of The Upright Citizens Brigade, but this movie has provoked my curiosity. It's mostly improv, so there are amazingly fresh moments, and scenes where it drags. It was apparently the big festival winner.
At the Q&A, DJ Hazard admitted he wasn't sure if they used real Canadians. If you want that explained, you should see the film.
