just a wee bit sunburnt. left for artbeat in a hurry.
I slept in late because I made
prog TiVO all 5 hours of Stargate last night, and didn't start hacking away at it until midnight.
First, watched Atlantis. Shrug. Villains are a wee bit too Marilyn Manson to take seriously. Not that the Goa'uld aren't a little too alt.goth.fashion with the whole Egyptian thing, but, I like the idea of space-faring aliens trying to pass themselves off as local deities rather than trying to explain advanced science to primitive peoples. And that the most dangerous space-faring races are the ones who stole the technology before they understood it, e.g. us and the Goa'uld.
Not sure that even the rule of "Pilots always suck" motivates me to give it another chance. Hot tub parties might though, when I'm up for the drive to worcester.
It made me realize that a joy of SG1 is believing these people are living in my world, when they're off duty. NID and Wormhole Extreme. The resident aliens endlessly fascinated by Star Wars or The Weather Channel. My favorite episodes are mostly spent on earth, or at least clearly set in our era, such as when the teams start throwing in terms like "Weapons of Mass Destruction" or "D'oh!" The budgetary/marketing/time restraints that go into creating the aliens and their worlds tend to make them unconvincing, or at least disappointing.
Artbeat went well. I am sure the storms will come the moment I arrive at a pool party, whether I leave now or in an hour.
