I sorta knew that Venus wasn't going to be much more than a little black spot, and not even that if the clouds came back.
Rather than the big observatory over on Garden Street thereabouts (where most of my attending local friends page apparently went), I went for the Oxford Street viewing, through antique telescopes used to view the last Venus transit. And included access to the historical instruments museum, at least the Orrery, which was what I most wanted to see.
They had a restrictive wristband system, luckily I jumped in with Perspecuity.com's elevator, 40 minutes ahead of me. Had I waited, it would've been too cloudy.
Inevitably, by the time
prog appeared, the live feed site (in Greece?) was also cloudy, right around the evidently "more interesting than a black dot" last few minutes before Venus leaves the sun (~7am ET). But, I made sure he got the spiffy glasses, so we can look at sunspots some other time.
Afterwards went to breakfast at Andy's Diner with the Perspecuity.com group. We then tried to figure out exactly how we all know each other. (Somerville Salon, the muted horn and the Kahn -- which was practically next door, all seem to converge onto NPL). Discussed the issue of the Someday loyalists v. the Diesel upstarts. Do ever the twain meet? Craig has a piece in the current Someday show, so must mosey on over to check it out.
Even before I specified no homefries or bread, one of them noticed that I ordered a small tomato juice. "South Beach?" One of the major perks about this diet is how many people are trying it. Even at Azkaban last night, I ended up sitting next to people who had also snuck in baggies of nuts and some string cheese.
