whining about my LJ friending neuroses and the annoyance of opt-in filters

1. (Since this has come up in person a couple times) Yes, it offends me greatly if someone I know in person lately joins the blogosphere for the social network, and doesn't consider me an important part of theirs. (At least, it WILL make me uncomfortable around you in person. "How's things?" when obviously you don't care. Don't harrass me about "coolbeans" and then infer that my LJ is too [something] for you in the same breath, especially considering the [something]er folks you do read.) All too often this year, LJ has been my rock. You've chosen not to offer even that little bit of validation. (It's not entirely healthy, but pretending I don't feel snubbed doesn't actually keep me from hurting, it just adds another layer to the angst.)

(Note: I joined in 2001 because my previous online journal's server went down for a few days, and ended up liking this interface better. I did not join for the social network, it turned into that after I got here, so I claim priority on the "You friend me first" Mexican Standoff. Yes, I've made exceptions, but if you've already read this far, just humor my frail ego.)

2. assume it is ok to add me to any filter. I would rather have access, and skip it when I'm not in the mood. If you want me to be able to read something, go ahead, add me. After all, I am already reading you. I have a default filter, but I generally use my friends/all filter. If you want people to be able to easily opt-out of individual posts, use lj-cut.

3. if you're doing the 20 anonymous things meme, just tell me if any of them apply to me. (The comments to this post will be screened so that no one else can read what you have to say.)

4. if I haven't added you back as a friend, it's probably because I'm trying to figure out who you are.

OR

You've proven to be stalking someone else through me.

OR

If you've been reading for a few years, now I'm wondering if you're still reading, and whether or not you even want to read the "locked" posts. I, um, get kinda whiny on ocassion. You know, a bit. Although, I am trying to get better about that. really. well, except for this post. er... hmmmm. (I usually can't get too far without incurring the clue-by-four of wrath via the likes of [livejournal.com profile] miss_chance.)
