first of all, DON'T USE EVITE! EVER!
second of all, NO, MEET UP DOES NOT SOLVE THE THIRD PARTY SERVER* ISSUE!
third, if you're going to write to me, soliciting a response, then don't run such a rigorous antispam program that I have to SEND A SECOND EMAIL to verify the address that is obviously ALREADY IN your address book. If you require a White List, and I am Not On It, Don't Send Me Mail!
Remember the days of yore, when you'd get an email with all the necessary info in it, with maybe an optional elaboration of directions and stuff at the host's personal site, and you didn't have to load a web page, or send multiple pieces of email, just to find out if the date conflicts?
This is why more of my invites go to my lj-friends list, and not, say, to coolbeans. Of course, said offender never bothered adding me as a friend, which my id inevitably interprets as: well, clearly they're not that interested in actually getting to know me, so why should I invite them to anything anymore?
Not that they're inviting me to anything. if it's not a one-step invite, where I can't just hit reply to RSVP, it no longer counts as an invite at all.

*yeah, LJ is a 3rd party server, but, since people are already checking their friends pages 25 times a day, I'm not making them go out of their way, or get new and unknown cookies, etc.
