No, this is not your geeky ex's Godel Escher Bach.
(Go ahead, bug me about the lack of umlauts...)
On Saturday, I finally confiscated
prog's copy of Quicksilver, brought it with me to read on the bike at the gym, so I got cardio -- as well as the weight training resulting from just carrying the book around.
(Prog has a most interesting rodent problem. The mice get into his fridge, find the 75% off valentine-themed Hershey miniatures I bought for him, and only eat the Krackels and Plains. Leaving all the precious Special Darks for me, Me, ME! I should be so lucky to have such mice, and perhaps some Mr. Goodbar Mice.)
It's looking like I might actually make it to game night tomorrow. (Barring the ever-looming catastrophe, of course). This means I can feed my borrowed Terry Pratchett book habit, trading Monstrous Regiment for The Wee Free Men. (
juliansinger started me on my voracious boston book borrowing habit...)
However, after
dougo met me at Bartley's tonight (tried the Howard Dean burger, before it gets renamed off the menu) we went and paid homage to Ruth, The Goddess of Pandemonium.
She mentioned the new Robin Hobb book, and my heart soared.
She noticed it wasn't on the shelf, hence probably out of stock, and I was deeply saddened.
She then suggested seeing if it was in the front window display, and it was,
and thus I was yet again uplifted.
O she so toys with my emotions, but I have been satisfied, for I hold a copy of Fool's Fate (...tries to type with book in hands... fails... ) under my right arm, hugged to me like my new best friend, which I'm sure it'll be.
Perhaps some of you would like to schedule a playdate with my new best friend? Considering my track record with Hobb books, I'll probably be finished reading it by the weekend.
