[RTO] Independent Women
Aug. 19th, 2003 08:45 amShe talks of how more women need to take risks, especially with travel. Ironically when I am at a point where I need to start writing down lists to make sure my trip to Burning Man isn't too chaotic, make sure I pack my meds, and warm clothing other than a bright red fur suit, for example.
She also talks of how independence isn't so tied with finances. What keeps me from trying to get pictures of (me with) Sonik's signs in Asia? Or trying to get an ESL teaching job a la bookly? The hassle of leaving, not getting there. The hassle of sorting through and storing all my shit, losing my apartment, turning my back on social options.
I can't leave that weekend, stuff is happening here.
Sigh For example, weddings always take me out of town during a favorite Open Studio. (Fort Point this year.) Of course, stuff is always happening everywhere. Which is often used as a rationalization the other direction. Why buy plane tickets to see this genre of event when I can experience something almost like it for the cost of a T-token? I'm not finding enough artistic inspiration lately, but I have my doubts that a month in Paris (France) would make me more productive.
It's not the locale, it's the BrAiN.
