[RTO] De/odorizing
Mar. 14th, 2003 11:43 amI'm skipping some entries here; useful stuff about breathing even. Since the last crew class for a while ended with yogi focused[1] single-nostril breathing, it's possibly as topical. maybe I'll just cover several days of entries here. Since the breathing entries lead to air quality and then specifically, indoor air quality.
Since
bitty[2] has been dealing with a major house stink lately, I figured I'd offer this nugget while she has the weekend to implement it.
Things she suggests:
Houseplants work for a living as air purifiers. (If only I could keep them alive...)
Use actual dried lavender instead of carpet powders. (If I vacuum at all it's a cause for celebration!)
Rosemary and thyme apparently work as insect repellents without smelling like a Superfund site. (So does garlic, right?)
Eucalyptus and lavender oils actually disinfect.
Wash surfaces with just baking soda and water. (Somehow, I doubt I'd get this past the pizza fairy, who seems to select cleansers for their toxicity.)
A bowl of boring white vinegar can absorb cigarette odors.
Paint smells are cured by bowls of salt and cut-up onions.
De-must up rooms (when it's too cold to open windows) with citrus peels on the... well, not sure a heat vent would do it.
She offers tons of aromatherapy advice too, but, Bitty can just come over and read the essay during a stretch break.
I prefer actually trying to clean a place before too much masking, or so I say. Pay no attention to that vanilla candle.
Maybe I'll clean and buy/get houseplants this weekend. I'll have lots of vinegar out anyway, mixing new egg dyes. Woot.
[1] Someone, possibly
pheromone, suggested that we usually only use one nostril at a time and don't notice. Seems unlikely to me, considering how much I notice when I can't use both nostrils at once.
