Ok, now she talks of the agony of shorter waits. And, of course, as she's saying that I'm feeling antsy because I find myself with an entirely unplanned Saturday.

Nice weather, but still too puddly for much more than a walk. (I did finally walk some of my pysanky down to the Blue Cloud gallery. Go buy them!) I have no T Pass! It went missing last night somewhere between here, [livejournal.com profile] pheromone's, [livejournal.com profile] magid's, the Zeitgeist, the S&S, and the Harvard T stop -- where I was luckily bailed out by my, um, date?

(argh, ok, I have now futzed my space bar as well as my e key... if you have tools small enough to re-attach the fussy key attachments I can see because my keyboard is transparent... COME OVER... er ...ew ...you might want to bring some compressed air too.)

Typing in the title of this post was asking for trouble. Clearly.

Anyway, before I shut down this laptop to try and deal with this, here's some of her suggestions for when you're waiting in line, in traffic, on hold, etc.
  • portable music player (listen to something different). I suppose I am close to upgrading to an Ipod (after a new laptop with a fresh keyboard for me to ruin). Although this requires me to actually figure out how to rip my cds and deal with mp3s finally. I would argue that I never listen to music, but I decided to catch up on my CMJ cds once the pizza fairy woke up, and I still like enough of them that maybe I will renew my subscription. He was stunned to hear me play records. I guess I don't when I am parked on the couch, since the speakers are in the other room. (I need to get my own stereo, and not just something makeshift with [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen's receiver, [livejournal.com profile] kalessin's end-table sized speakers that often have a nasty hum, and the portable CD player I've had since... at least 1993...)
  • carry a small artist's sketchbook. my failure to ever sketch when I do this is among the reasons I know I'm not the artist some of you think I am.
  • crotchet... not something I can teach myself.
  • organize your address book. (this usually makes me want a palm-top. or a properly padded backpack for a laptop.)
  • origami
  • reading. specifically, poetry, which I'd recommend only because it's easier to find it in actual pocketsize books these days. although she also recommends plays, and erotica. (ok, she's changed a lotsince the last book.)
  • learn to play solitaire... with actual playing cards. how quaint.
  • roleplay with yourself. (just to be cryptic enough that some of you might actually buy the book, rather than just reading this.)

must attack space bar now.

[addendum: space bar is significantly easier to fix than the e key. the e key clearly still requires tools other than bright lights, fingers, one or two finergnails (a spare is always good), and a fly-in business reply postcard folded up firmly enough to get the necessary leverage to get that one part to snap back into place.]
