even waiting eats a lot of bandwidth, so use your time wisely.

she makes suggestions for long waits, like, hours.
not much to help short waits, like the T, or someone who swears they're less than 5 minutes from ringing your doorbell. yoga and short articles to read, or managing to get 2-3 items back to the place you're most likely to look for them when you need them again; actually hanging up your coat, herding glasses to the kitchen, etc.

Long waits are usually pretty easy to fill. Always chores to be done, email to answer, books, magazines, LJ, urls to look up, and, of course, all of it completely sideswiped by something like tetris, snood, minesweeper, or any game at pop-cap - distraction of which is probably why it takes me longer to watch the monday marathon. I should do yoga or abs while watching, if I get that restless.

In fact, in spite of having never been Catholic, perhaps I will give up such games for Lent. I've been trying to think of what to give up for Lent, since I regard it as generally a good idea, sort of taking New Year's resolutions for a test flight. The other aspect is to try to be a better person, right. After seeing the 7x7 meme go around about soup kitchens, I am reminded I said I would volunteer. Not sure where I'll print up the time. I am already being mistaken for a member of the arts council. Folks are asking me about Artbeat. And, I like the theme.

Long waits in transit are trickier. Just remember to have reading/music/input material, writing/sketching/output material, and games. She travels with a small scrabble set, and plays against herself on long flights. That seemed worth passing on to y'all.

Long term waits include arranging a get-away night for yourself at a local bed and breakfast, or actually going to a Spa. I don't know anyone who would do such things because they were waiting. Most folks I know are pretty good about keeping themselves busy, too busy, in fact.

Perhaps we need to make time to wait?
