SA 12/20 Pollyanna Wanna Banana?
Dec. 20th, 2002 01:51 pmThere was actually a book called Pollyanna, about a unsinkably cheerful orphan whose perkiness was ultimately rewarding?
Who knew?
I may be more cheerful (more often) lately than I'm reputed to be, but, you still won't see me venturing into FAO Schwarz for too long before I have to envision a thrash version of Welcome to Our World of Toys in order to avoid bloodshed.
And this discussion was with one of the token perky/festive cow-orkers. Brings in sweets a lot, has several work-week's worth of seasonal wardrobe/jewelry etc. Even she is too (post-post-)post-modern to take that much holiday cheer without the insulin of cynicism.
Then again, constantly envisioning the worst case scenario is even more unpleasant, and far, far less rewarding.
Cheer up. And if you're really unhappy, smile anyway, other people probably can't fix it. If they can, being grumpy will not encourage them to try. Ask me how I know this.
