Soul Cakes
Nov. 1st, 2006 05:18 pmHaving recently read about it in Wintersmith, Zarf and I had to go check out the AntiMorris dancers in my town. I figured I'd know some of them well enough to engage in a little reverse trick-or-treating, loading my plastic pumpkin with a few leftover airplane bottles from the SoaP party, and a stack of free samples I got from Kiehls specifically for rTorT. (So much for my theory that most of them don't drink. They cleaned me out.)
We watched the dance, walked the labyrinth, and then, not making our escape in time, I ended up part of a Mummers' Play (as Beelzebub, since I already had the outfit). Actually a lot of fun (especially since the weather was nice). My first time seeing trick-or-treaters in years.
But, I had a ticket to Tomes of Terror, and, I'd forgotten to turn The Eyes on*, so we walked home. It was a nice night. A lot of folks were hanging out on their steps, hoping to see any kids, and almost begging me to take some candy. (Quite a few people just left buckets of candy on their stoop, which I would've loved as a greedy sugar addicted child, but found kinda patheric last night). I reloaded my booze pile, had a few nice trades between home and the show, then got completely cleaned out by the foley artists before any of the actors could get to my magic stash. (Boy were they annoyed. Not really, but, you know, they played it up. Actors.)
Then, brought
prog to check out the Spider Webs on Chester. It was late enough that the other big display (which involved the hosts surprising people) along Orchard came over to spook the Spider Hosts. The Halloween decorations keep getting bigger. I wonder how long before we have Trolley Tours for this holiday too.
Definitely recommend the Anti-Morris and Mummers combo, which lends itself nicely to campfollowing reverse trick-or-treaters.
