Simple Abundance 7/26-29
Jul. 29th, 2002 02:50 pm7/26 Girls (should) just wanna have fun.
Many busy women, like my sister, have a blank look when you ask them what they do for fun, to relax and restore themselves. My but are there many ways to answer this question. As I am writing this, I am fantasizing about an, um, porno-craft project. (http://morningwoodlabs.com courtesy of the appropriately nicked
hammercock. IT'S ALL HER FAULT!!!!) Strictly fantasy for me at this juncture. While it would eventually contribute to a certain option of having fun by yourself, we all know it's not what Simple Abundance lady had in mind.
She wants you to figure out what you do for play, the sort of play you could share with minors. Needlepoint, minigolf, wordgames, jigsaw puzzles.
She also offers a delicious new word; Moodling. inefficient puttering/mental dooldling that allows you to cleanse your mind and figure out what little actions, non-sexual things, that really give you pleasure.
I've never been so busy to forget at least a few of these things.
7/27 Solitary pleasures
Write out a quick list of 10 things you like doing by yourself.
If you could have three additional skills, free, what would they be?
She wants a list of three outrageous things, suggesting belly dancing, hot air ballooning and clowning. I've done all three.
A list of three daring things; stand-up comedy (I prefer private parties), mountain climbing (I don't have a good enough grip), and scuba (snorkeling?)
Three all-expense-paid vacations: A dig in Egypt or Orient express both sound cool, but a haute couture trip would probably make me horribly insecure, and I'd run off to museums or visit people I know in europe in short order.
handiwork: needlecraft (it was ok), bookbinding (never tried it), gardening (not enough instant gratification)
visual art: arranging my myriad cruft, painting, web design.
7/28 Associating plies with pleasure does NOTHING for me
Plies are deep knee bends, which means I hold for them HEAPING CHUNKS of HATE.
But, the Martha Graham quote about how you have something unique to express, go to it.
Ok, watercolor paper, and rubber cement, old toothbrush and a straw. I keep saying I want to do more abtract watercolors like the ones I did in junior high, time to do it. Want in?
7/29 Home work
here she waxes again about trying to upgrade one's home.
I have pretty much wasted the day daydreaming. The moment I jumped up and said, ok, Must Do Something, I finally broke out into a sweat. But... my main concern is the Too Much Crap, Don't Know Where to Put It, factor. Well, ok, that is my main concern after caffiene and AC, which will get me out of the house, to the pharmacist and handwriting a letter to my nephew, who is netless at daycamp. Poor thing.

7/27 Solitary pleasures
Write out a quick list of 10 things you like doing by yourself.
- jigsaw puzzles
- computer games
- painting
- drawing
- interior design
- walking on the beach, inventing my alternate universe, back when I had almost no exposure to the fantasy/sf genre.
- making chocolate chip cookies and popovers
- long walks to/through tiny/obscure graveyards
- listening to music
- watching animation and short films
If you could have three additional skills, free, what would they be?
- Animation
- a musical instrument (keyboards or guitar, most likely)
- acrobatics
