kings of the world, and suchnaught

It has taken exactly a month, but I have just now finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, reading mostly at lunch and on my evening commutes. (My morning commute is METRO puzzles, easier for my precaffinated mind than books).
Now, whether to try and read a few light, fast books, as if to cleanse the palate, or to plunge right into the House. Recommendations welcome. As always, it's more effective to hand me a book. (I tend to read borrowed books faster than my own.)
I had hoped to finish the novel before the job, and unexpectedly succeeded. Today was to be my last day. However, I am possessed of my own sort of magic: my contracts tend to last longer than planned. Not due to impeding progress with sloth or ineptitude, I hasten the process enough that, when my original termination date arrives, I've finished the task for which I was hired and am in the middle of a number of useful things they never thought they'd have the time to properly address.
... er...
I'm thinking, perhaps a book not written in a style of 19th century verbosity may be called for at this time.
Just a hunch.
