Simple Abundance 4/23-26 Senseless
Apr. 27th, 2002 01:29 am4/23 The Cramps would say "Smell of Female"
But, even in G-rated situations, a person's scent plays a distinct role. I notice other people's base smells, but I only see to smell like my environment.
As I am writing this, I've spent the day trying to desmoke my clothes without having to wash them. Yeah, they will get washed, eventually. Probably within the week to help fill out a load of work-out clothes. I've been experimenting on wearing work-out clothes more than once before washing, but, like underwear, it's a case by case thing. Depends on the work-out, you know.
If I am running outside, which is generally well-ventilated, I'm not too concerned if I'm a bit rank at the start. This is all out of some paranoid concern about overusing water, and wearing out my clothing faster than I can afford by washing it too much.
Ok, really it's about laziness.
But, the point is, in spite of this, I don't seem to stink. (Or you all are entirely too polite. Well, except when I fart. I wish I had a discernable odor that was *pleasant*.)
This day, I used my honey/oatmeal moisturizer right before bed, indulging in the smell. That was nice.
4/24 Taste
Taste of Pizza, where I ordered dinner. Buffalo wings. mmmm.
She exhorts us to clean out our spice drawer. I have never willingly bought pumpkin pie spice and hence do not expect find 15 containers of it. She also suggests experimenting with spices. I may be her bland demographic, but I haven't had similarly bland roommates in years. Knowing folks who cook medieval or ethnic foods has exposed me to a lot of flavors.
I think I'm caught up on the taste thing.
4/25 Sight
She discusses sight and the horrors of blindness. Aside from my dad,
greenwood regularly comments about her increasing blindness that I pointedly appreciate my sight. Visual art fag-ness aside, I did spend some time this day looking at things. During a morning rush to an interview (for a Temp Job! Three different people had to interview me!) But, in a little alley behind downtown crossing, near devonshire and federal, some of the paving bricks have been replaced with brass reliefs of tallships, lobsters, hands writing on scrolls, birds, all kinds of little things the worker bees were too rushed to see. When they got to their 9 o'clocks, in meeting rooms with views and original art, they further ruined their vision with small charts and numbers rather than notice. Some of them did. But they didn't find themselves looking out at the bay wondering whether their friend can still see that, or, like Dad, has to settle for a 2D rendering, close-up and easy to focus on, with a big magnifying glass in an overbright room, to remember what a skyline looks like.
Or what it doesn't look like anymore. Dad was probably too blind to see distinct shapes on the always-on TV in his room. Didn't have to see the towers fall and fall and fall and fall, the way the space shuttle kept exploding, and kennedy got shot, over and over.
I spent time looking at blue eyes, to make sure I'll have something else I've seen as much, when my visions are all memory.
4/26 Sound
Since being asked about friend-tests when I was *this* close to being asleep wednesday, I'm been having daydreams and actual REM sleep dreams about friend test questions. (Dating lj users leads to more severe reality issues than dating SCAdians!) I debated asking folks to guess which sense I'd most easily part with. I figured it'd be sound. I already mis-hear people, it doesn't usually occur to me to play music most of the time. But... I suppose I would miss the sounds of nature. And, while much of music for me would still be in the vibrations, I would've missed Evan's violin serenade, Derek's violin conversations, or Eric panpiping beer bottles with the impromptu drum circles that jumped in whenever the DJs blew a fuse at the party tonight.
(the friends test site fails to work for me. no quiz for you! maybe tomorrow...)
