The Monster Truck Cake

Sure, I could do up a cute, rambling blog entry of the various stages photographed, recounting how just handling Crisco makes me snicker like Beavis, how I regretted straying from the Joy of Cooking for the frosting recipe, which, despite disturbing quantities of confectioner's sugar, tasted too much of crisco and food coloring for my tastes.
None of that compares to the result, as captured by

The Monster Truck
I did stumble across a package of mini-crullers. I might just have to make a bunch of littler cakes sometime, and, once you see the photo, you can guess there's an obvious recipient in mind.
However, if it happens, it will be while learning how to use fondant. My next planned baking adventure will be to make a gingerbread haunted house (around Hallowe'en, of course). Somehow. (It requires a much stiffer sort of gingerbread, I think, and yes, I will totally want help with it.)
