So, the one (1) IFF showing of TWISTED: A Balloonamentary, which I absolutely Must See, conflicts with my annual spring 10K.
You could argue that I could see A Movie some other time, but I know better. You could argue that I could just run a 10K on my own (and I probably will, early enough to still make the screening), but, there really is some benefit to doing timed courses with cops and volunteers to control traffic. (Among the reasons I can't accurately gauge my independent outdoor speed is due to time waiting at traffic lights.)
I could always run a different certified 10K race on a neighboring weekend, which probably my best option. It won't allow me to fully assess whether I've improved much from last year, being a different course. However, the Ramble's support of the 10K runners has markedly degraded. My first few years' running the goodie-bags had movie passes, coupons for really good bread, and as many free samples of yogurt, soda or chips as your pride (or lack thereof) allowed you to grab. Last year, I didn't even get a Marathon Sports coupon (
pheromone had specifically asked me for the one we both knew would be in the bag). In fact, they didn't even have water left. I've improved my pace by more than a minute, and I still spend the last mile dodging the walkers and strollers that have merged into my course.
So, little remorse over this.
On the other, more remorseful, hand, that's the same weekend as the return of The Ego and the Oracle, which I do, in fact, recommend highly. Granted, I'm a big fan of Jim's Big Ego, and fortune-telling. I'm bummed that I can't possibly attend all three nights without missing something yummy bits of IFF. (I'm just going to have to resign myself to the fact that, barring some great breakthroughs in cloning or time travel, I'm not getting to JP to see Shoe's show on Sunday).
The other IFF must-see is Black Sheep. Ones that are nearly-must-sees, depending on volunteer schedule: (All three shorts showcases), Fay Grim, Brooklyn Rules, Eagle vs. Shark, The Ten, Monster Camp and Lake of Fire. Film buffs should peruse the schedule and let me know if there was something amazing I've neglected to notice.
