there is something really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really wrong with Germans.

Journey into Bliss has not only knocked out The Forbidden Zone as the weirdest movie I'd recommend, but makes it a distant second. (Or perhaps a third, behind selected works of Guy Maddin.)

Germany: the liability laws are different there. The scenes with the live animals, most notably the bear, are very cleverly filmed.

There is randomness to the plot that could be colloquialisms lost in subtitles, or it could be that Germans are just way, way too into bodily functions and fluids. The one I'd been spoilered for (the rabbit) was merely implied, unlike the rest.

The Snailboat's "aboriginal" crew in black-face is Not the most socially incorrect thing in the film. Then again, I'm probably just uptight in my old age. After all, I was suitably horrified by the most recent South Park Christmas Special.

The set design is a visit to planet Art Car. (The Gluers!) Someone has an unhealthy attachment to their gluegun, but the results are breathtaking. It's all very brightly colored and festive, giving that dream-like trippiness that must be why this film drew comparisons with Terry Gilliam. For this alone, I'd recommend checking it out.

I mean, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really wrong
