Tonight's NIN show was cancelled.
I have been dreading this show since it became obvious it was going to be negative a million outside. (Manhattan yesterday was unforgivably brutal.) Warmer weather shows give me the option of dressing up. And, since we have floor tickets, I wouldn't even have a chair where I could dump the necessary outer layers. Warm coat options are all not very fashionable, barring wearing the leather duster, which is warm, but very heavy and very stealable. I'd have to carry it the whole time. I was miserable at the thought of going back and forth from polar temperatures, and hot, crowded mosh pits, and overheated, dry hotels.
Even if there weren't a non-zero chance of being in a meet'n'greet with Trent (thanks to travelling with members of a the fan club), dressing up puts me in a more engaged, festive state of mind. This is an unspoken appeal of going goth. You can devote a lot of time to your appearance, without the pretentious, judgemental, "I'm better than you for not caring about my looks" crowd proclaiming you shallow (at least, in comparison to how they perceive, say, East Village Bohos).
Dressing up to meet celebrities, because you want to look your best for that 30 second opportunity to have your picture with them is not exclusive to NIN fans.
Speaking of other idle wishes from this weekend that SO didn't come true, the local newspaper where Clooney is filming has noted that it seems like the entire female half of the population for miles around lined up outside the set to meet him, all completely made up. (There are guys waiting to meet him too, but they're apparently wearing non-remarkable levels of make-up.) In this weather?
Reading about them cured me of any fantasy of driving there with my sudden day off. (I already missed the day that Jon Stewart came up to film some Oscar blip in bed with Clooney! A picture with both of them would've, er, kept me warm for weeks. Heck, even the woman who loaned them her bed didn't get to keep the sheets. And I love that she asked. Love it.)
I find myself suddenly without plans today. (other than the gym and laundry) Anyone wanna do something? (if we move quickly, maybe the MoS or MFA?)
