what sound of thunder

I am avoiding the drive marathonward. Ok, not so much avoiding, as hoping to say goodbye to folks here before I go. They went golfing hours ago, when the Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were already in effect.

I can see the branching bolts of lightning crisply enough from here. But they are not crackling appropriately. Just the sort of rumbling one expects when the clouds merely blink diffusely. Practically Mute.
