As a birthday present, somene gave me several movie coupons that needed to be used before the end of this month. Now I am scrambling to use them up before the weekend descends upon me. (Chanticleer, S.O.S., Cyberarts, etc.)
Last night, it was Robots. Enh. No amount of puns and site gags and impressive animation can fully make up for an uninspiring storyline. The anti-media, anti-monopoly, anti-"bottom line trumps all" message was muddied with a lot of outdated "traditional" values. It doesn't matter what you look like, as long as you look "male". Focusing on body image and gender identity, after already establishing that characters "grow-up" by swapping in progressively more adult-sized body parts from "either gender", was disappointing. Kids'll love it, and, it's probably less harmful than most of the stuff out there. Still, enh.
