cthulhia: (burning man)
Missed most of the social events posted to mailing lists, but still had a decently fulfilling weekend.

Friday was shopping, dragging [livejournal.com profile] prog out for coffee, and then accepting [livejournal.com profile] tcb offer of Tasty Open Porch Goodness, which resulted in watching Time Bandits (which, thanks to at least one of her lj icons, led me to expound upon my deep, undying love for [livejournal.com profile] gnat23). I forget how much I love that movie. It's probably why I got into RPGs.

Contrast and compare Time Bandits' Kevin, who after being nearly killed by a knight the night before, is efffectively packed and ready to follow whoever next steps out of his wardrobe, with Bloom County's Milo, who, when directly offered a "life of adventure", has to think about it. Extra credit if you can avoid mentioning C.S. Lewis.

If I could devise a course where that would be an appropriate exam question, I'd consider getting the advanced degrees necessary to be qualified to teach it. Something akin to pop culture "lit" crossed with philosophy, sociology and pyschology, perhaps? That's a lot of years in school... hrm.

Saturday was a lot of non-productivity. Menotomy was rained out. No running, no harrassing the post offal about the mis-mailed postcards, eventually laundry, but that's a 10' walk. Finally, just as I was about to go play games, [livejournal.com profile] rabbitorf insisted I visit her yard sale, where we discovered that anything qualifies as a sex toy, especially a long adjustable contraption used to reach and change lightbulbs significantly out of reach.

[livejournal.com profile] srakkt showed up significantly later than planned. I still didn't use the extra time to get anything done, except the jigsaw puzzle maze, and entirely without [livejournal.com profile] mycroft's help this time, (let me know if I should break down the puzzle and bring it over sometime).

However, we did manage to go to the restaurant attached to Vinnie's Superette, which my sister mentioned after was written up in Newsweek. Very tasty. Then afterwards to Best Buy, where I pretty much determined that the TV I wanted was the 27" panasonic, HDTV, energystar, flatscreen... only in 24", which they don't carry. (BJ's apparently does.)

Then, to Shrek 2. I agree with everyone else on my friendpage who's seen it. It's better than the first one. It's really hard to not spoil it for everyone by giggling over the good lines. You don't have to be [livejournal.com profile] srakkt to be completely in thrall to Puss... in Bootz.

Sunday was [livejournal.com profile] crs's dim sum foo, with a whole bunch of you. Many of us following [livejournal.com profile] onetwolittleb home for all her karaoke stuff, and DDR variants of karaoke and dancing arms. (eye-toy? whatever it is, you spend the time looking at yourself on screen, it feels addictively narcissistic after a bit.)

This caused me to miss [livejournal.com profile] miss_chance's Walden excursion. We met for dinner afterwards and had some decent, girl-bonding, TMI discussions of the sort which should make you nervous, so there. (I, however, feel a lot better now.)
