[m4w] powerlessnesses
Jan. 2nd, 2004 04:02 pmI liked
mattlistener 's suggestion most, only, I'll make it a little more h4ck3r.
AWS suggests that women react horribly to the thought of their being powerless. Nah. I am so used to it.
Some might argue that I am not as powerless as I think I am. That I tend to give up before trying, because I start out convinced I'll fail. I don't know how much I attribute that to gender (the way AWS does), barring the misgyny that led to the [nda], and, even that I regard as someone else frantically in denial of their lack of absolute power over any situation.
My sister's home computer is down, so the only access I have is by going out to the awfis. It's wicked slow, my reading page loads for crap, so I'm going to miss a lot. (Until I get really, really bored at work next week, maybe). Ok, I did just check to make sure
awfief is doing the Simple Abundance Thing in her journal, like she said she would. (and she is, yay!)

Apparently, they weren't expecting me until tomorrow. I called ahead, and ended up at my sister's overnight. Enjoyed the preppy holiday decor, Played with the kitties, who seem neglected for the dogses. (BTW, mom loved the idea of having a painting of "the girls", she was just dismayed that the painter made them look mean.)
We bought each other peppermint bark as part of our gifts to each other. She also got me "the 52 most dangerous liberals" deck of playing cards (with awareness of the irony, at least. Maybe I'll donate to Senator Hillary's campaign in her name.)

Because I arrived in the dark, and couldn't tell the old snowdrifts were grey, I didn't realize there was fresh snow until I went out to my car this morning. The holiday decorations (as well as the pets) look so much more festive with the snow.
Then again, I may be high on paint fumes. I spent most of the morning spraypainting the giant pyramids in Mom's basement. (Actually putting on the mask, rather than holding it on, made a difference -- at least for my hands.) The silver stash may not need the second can (much less the 3rd), it's going on so well. The purple stash will be a fave of the faeirie set. The orange is not going consistently, but, it looks kinda neat with the old, patchy red under it.
I'm thinking of red and orange sharpies and just having everyone at Arisia 04 sign that stash. (I'm vaguely planning to do something similar with each stash, but, the rest don't need it the way this one will.)
::
The other sister also gave mom a painting. Her own work, a copy of mom's favorite Han. (No net image of it, that I've found, but I have several card-size copies at home. Mom uses it as her stationery.) This motivated me to go to the Munstitute and see the real thing. Technically not on display, I asked vaguely after it and wandered off when they said it wasn't out. Easton Pribble and the Victorian rooms had holiday decorations. Then, because there was far more staff than guests, they found me and guided me to the staff office where the Han was hiding. The assistant told me that when they called asking if she still had the Han, she was convinced they were finally going to take it away. She was relieved to hear I just wanted to look at it.

Mom went out and bought Turkey Joints, because I asked about them years ago. I didn't even mention the discussion at
fangirl715's brunch. (The jar mom got had a lot broken already, I didn't do it. Not that it matters, even I don't have enough of a sweet tooth to eat a whole one anymore. Or maybe I'm just too snooty about my sweets now.)
peppermint bark, burdicks cocoa (left from September). there's marshmallows, even if not the $2 ones. And kitties. A nice clean bathtub just waiting for the lush bombs I packed. And then, perhaps, a martini bar, if mah peeps ever return my calls.
