Today's meditation is to try to discover your own scent.

Um, perhaps once you thaw out your olfactory organs and the frozen booger defense grid.

I had been dreading the though of merely crossing the street to go to the bank. I need money for dinner tonight, a cab to get me there (Web site says 8-10 minute walk from nearest T, far too long in this Antarctic), and Batboy tomorrow. I scraped together not quite enough for coffee at the cafeteria, and lucked out because they knock more than a quarter off if you provide your own mug.

Then payday lady visited my cube. Having a second paystub to deposit finally motivated me to bundle up for the wait at the crosswalk. Doubling my checking account, and being able to even consider feeding my starving little 401(k) (that I forgot about until I received an annual report -- I haven't been active with that agency in a while) warmed me up a bit. (Although, only one of my 1099s has arrived. Who knows what catastrophes await?)

So, about scent.

If you're one of those annoying stinky people who overdoes it with artificial scents, cut it out for a week. I rarely use scents. I use a mostly unscented deodorant (perhaps vaguely citrus? I can't smell it now, nor do I sniff smell armpit, so it must be working, or I'm not warm enough to break a sweat). Let's see, last shower was... at the gym (the jacuzzi is finally repaired, and, shockingly enough, has been mobbed ever since) so last used their bland liquid soap (home would've been Dr. B's Peppermint -- but Diluted DILUTED, ok?)

Clothing is sniff sufficiently clean, and, er, I haven't washed my hair since last friday... so it looks straight, sniff smells ok. I often get compliments on my hair when it's in this condition. My scalp usually itches like mad by this point. Perhaps it is overcome by fear of being even a little wet in this weather. Or maybe it's that I haven't actually tried to break a sweat for the past week.

(Sure, I've been to the gym. Walk in, see the Jacuzzi Closed sign, walk right back out, without even removing my gloves. Yesterday I was so tired that I just went straight to the spa area: Do not pass go, Do not burn 200 calories on the treadmill. I was so bad I didn't even walk up the steps at Porter, usually the first part of my work-out.)

Hmmm... I mostly smell like coffee and onions and sweet to me.

What did I eat last night? Ah, yes, I made a soup out of the Larb. Added mushrooms, green onions, pepper, chicken broth (which was silly, I need to use up the miso stuff given to me last Passover before, say, next Passover), eggs ...
Then I tried the RTO hot cocoa recipe that turns up later in the month. Sans sugar. Although I made up for that with a couple slices off a tube of cookie dough, because reading The Empty City makes me crave such comfort foods.

Sweet and spicy. Like Thai food.
