episode 3: revenge of red sox nation
Really, I meant to get sleep last night.
However, one of the other Open Studios peeps also hadn't seen The Movie yet. We decided to see if there were tickets left. On Friday night of opening weekend. So, not likely. Except that the major fanboys (and girls) already saw it.
Since AMC Fenway is on the way to Loews Boston Common, we stopped there first. They had stormtroopers and jedis and red imperial guards out front. The only real reason one endures the chaos of opening weekend.
The next unsold out show was more than an hour away. We headed back to the car... and then realized that An Awful Lot of Folks were doing the same. A lot of folks wearing red, and baseball caps, if you get my meaning. Them! We deduced that by the time we got out of the garage we'd hit game traffic, and... we'd end up at just as late a show anywhere else.
We went back in, bought tickets, watched the constant stream of Sox fans get pictures with the (volunteer) Star Wars characters, who generally got the irony when we joked with them about those nuts... who dress up like their favorite baseball players (or the woman with the cheesehead-like hat that was mini-fenway park?), wow, they get just a little too into it, eh? Only one of the Red Guard caught himself, "Er, am I allowed to be smug about that?"
There were little kids in their Jedi Bathrobes and wooden dowel lightsabers! Yay!
As to the movie... Um, wow, what a budget! Shame about waiting until the third film to start vital plot development. I almost called St.Eve at 3 am last night. "So when you said 'Yes, they finally got it right!' what precisely did you mean by 'they', 'it' and 'right'?"
Sure, it was better than the Star Wars Holiday Special, but Lucas lost me with the ewoks, and still hasn't won me back.
